AIZAWL: 231 positive cases of HIV/AIDS have been detected in Mizoram in the last three months. Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) revealed

“So within just three months, the number of fresh HIV cases has gone upto 231 which is very alarming,” said the MSACS officials today.
Unprotected sex and sharing of needles are still the main causes of the spread of HIV in the state.
During March alone, 70 persons, 39 males and 31 females, contracted this disease. Till today, 177 have died due to AIDS in Mizoram where 104 were males and 73 females.
Meanwhile, MSACS had also recently revealed that there are 204 children below the age of 15 living with HIV/AIDS. This was revealed at a seminar ‘National Policy Framework of Children Affected by HIV’ organised by MSACS in collaboration with UNICEF in Aizawl. MSACS project director Dr. Eric Zomawia said Mizoram is one of the most sensitive states in parent to child transmission of HIV on India.
