Diphu, July 5, 2025, Virthli: In a landmark achievement for football in Assam, Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC (KAMSFC) has secured promotion to the I-League 2025-26, becoming the only club from the state to do so. The team is also set to participate in the prestigious 134th Indian Oil Durand Cup, one of Asia’s oldest and most revered football tournaments.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma extended his congratulations to the club, hailing the achievement as a proud moment for Assam and Karbi Anglong. “Wishing the team great success and strength as they carry the hopes and pride of Karbi Anglong on the national stage,” he wrote on social media.
Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief, Tuliram Ronghang, also lauded the team, stating, “Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC is officially among India's top clubs. Huge congratulations! Your hard work and dedication have paid off.” He also thanked the club’s president Mr. Sengkan Ronghang for his leadership.

As part of the Durand Cup 2025 celebrations, the flag-off ceremony and trophy unveiling was held on July 4 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The event was graced by President Droupadi Murmu, along with top officials of the Indian Army and members of India’s premier football clubs.
The participation of KAMSFC at such a prestigious level marks a significant milestone for football in the hill districts of Assam, and the club’s progress is being seen as an inspiration for young talent across the region.
KAMSFC will now represent not just Karbi Anglong but the entire state on a national platform, as they prepare to battle it out with India’s best in the I-League and the Durand Cup.
