Five UNKA Cadres Arrested After Fierce Encounters in Churachandpur

Churachandpur, Nov 4, 2025: Security forces intensified counterinsurgency operations in Manipur, leading to the killing of four insurgents, injury to one, and arrest of five cadres of the proscribed United National Kuki Army (UNKA), including a juvenile.

The joint Indian Army and Assam Rifles operation in the Henglep sub-division resulted in the arrest of Paolonlal Kipgen (30), Kamlalien (23), L. Longkhel Singsit (26), Thangsawan (14), and Kangjipao (37), along with a cache of arms and ammunition.

The juvenile has been handed over to the concerned officer, while others were transferred to Henglep Police for investigation. Earlier, a gunfight at Khanpi village saw four UNKA militants neutralized and one injured cadre captured.

The crackdown follows a high-level security review meeting between NSG Director General Brighu Srinivasan and Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. The UNKA, a non-SoO group, continues to demand a separate homeland straddling India and Myanmar.
