Nambol, Sept. 19: In a deadly ambush on Thursday evening, unidentified gunmen attacked a convoy of the 33 Assam Rifles (AR) at Nambol Sabal Leikai under Nambol Police Station in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, leaving two personnel dead and at least four to five others injured.
The incident occurred around 5:50 pm when the assailants opened fire on a Tata 407 vehicle carrying AR personnel from Imphal towards Bishnupur. The sudden attack killed two personnel on the spot, while the injured were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment.
Though the ambush is suspected to be the handiwork of a valley-based insurgent group (VBIG), no group has claimed responsibility so far.

Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area, and a massive search operation was launched to track down the perpetrators. Additional reinforcements have been deployed, and security has been tightened across the region to prevent further escalation.
This ambush marks yet another grim reminder of the continuing insurgency-related violence in Manipur, even as security forces intensify operations to restore peace in the state.
