Imphal, Sept. 18: In a major counter-insurgency operation, joint teams of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives from hill districts of Manipur, officials said on Thursday.
The coordinated search operations were launched simultaneously in suspected areas of Churachandpur, Chandel, and Tengnoupal districts, following specific intelligence about hidden arms stockpiles.
According to a press note issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, Manipur, the recovery included:
• 87 weapons: 1 M16 rifle, 1 MA1 rifle, 1 INSAS rifle, 1 9mm FGC MK-II rifle, 2 .303 rifles, 1 carbine, 37 single-barrel guns, 1 double-barrel gun, 11 pistols, 3 lathodes, and 28 “pompi” guns.
• 57 rounds of ammunition: including 22 grenades, 5 lathode bombs, and 30 assorted rounds.
• Other items: 23 radio sets, 2 radio chargers, and 2 BPJ plates.
The DGP’s office stated that the seizures reflect the sustained efforts of security forces to curb illegal arms circulation and restore peace in the violence-affected hill areas.

Citizens have been urged to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities or information on illegal arms to the nearest police station or control room.
Senior police officials reaffirmed that operations will continue in a sustained and focused manner to restore normalcy, maintain public order, and safeguard the lives and property of all residents.
