Nazareth Lalthazuala Hmar Becomes Mizoram’s First Fighter to Sign with ONE Championship

Aizawl, Sept. 16: In a landmark achievement for Mizoram and Northeast India, mixed martial artist Nazareth Lalthazuala Hmar has officially signed a professional contract with ONE Championship, Asia’s biggest MMA organization. He is the first-ever fighter from Mizoram to join the global stage, marking a historic milestone for the state’s combat sports community.

Nazareth’s journey is one of grit and perseverance. A former truck and sumo driver, he began his MMA career in 2021 and has since built an undefeated record of 5–0. He is also a three-time national flyweight MMA champion, a medalist in kickboxing - including an international gold - and a bronze medalist in Wushu at the 2025 National Games.

Currently training under Coach Manas Daimary at Dojang MMA in Guwahati, Nazareth represents Team Joseph from Mizoram. His fighting spirit has quickly made him one of the brightest prospects in Indian MMA.

Beyond the octagon, Nazareth is a father to a three-year-old daughter and draws inspiration from UFC fighter Joshua Van. Hailing from Phuaibuang village and raised in Zemabawk, Aizawl, he carries with him the pride of Mizoram and Northeast India as he steps into the global spotlight.

With his signing, Nazareth not only represents Mizoram but also paves the way for young athletes from the region to dream big in combat sports. Fans and the MMA community across India have hailed his achievement as a moment of inspiration for the next generation.
