Dr. Lorho, 65, a medical doctor-turned-politician from the Mao community, resigned from the Naga People’s Front (NPF) last week, citing personal reasons. In his resignation letter to NPF president Apong Pongener, he thanked the party for the opportunities provided to him but said personal considerations had prompted his decision to step down.

“This decision has not been easy for me to make. I appreciate the opportunities the Naga People’s Front had given me to serve in various capacities as an active member,” Dr. Lorho stated in his letter.

Elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 on an NPF ticket, Dr. Lorho said he would now work to strengthen the NPP’s base in Manipur.

Welcoming him into the party, Conrad K. Sangma said, “Dr. Lorho brings to the party his experience, his wisdom and his support base from the State of Manipur. We are confident that he will be an asset to the party and will work closely to further NPP’s mantra of One Voice, One North East.”

With Dr. Lorho’s entry, the NPP expects to consolidate its presence in Manipur’s hill districts and boost its political outreach ahead of future elections.
