Manipur Authorities Tighten Security to Safeguard Farmers Amid Ongoing Tensions

In a proactive move, a high-level Combined Headquarters (CHQ) meeting was convened on June 28, chaired by Security Advisor to the Government of Manipur, and attended by the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and top officials from all security forces. The primary agenda was to assess the current security landscape, ensure safe farming activity, and prevent any untoward incidents.

As part of the comprehensive plan:

Manipur Police personnel have been deployed across vulnerable agricultural zones, supporting Central Security Forces in both hill and valley areas.

Central forces have been redeployed near Phubala, strengthening security where tensions remain high.

The Police Headquarters has issued directives to all District Superintendents of Police (SsP) to implement heightened security protocols, including personal inspections by senior officers.

Security teams are actively identifying and monitoring sensitive farming locations, ensuring constant vigilance.

Joint combing operations are underway in fringe and interior hill areas to flush out armed miscreants.

Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and flying squads are now operational for emergency support.

Additionally, local coordination meetings between district administrations, police, and village communities have helped streamline farming hours and improve field-level communication.

The administration has called on the farming community to remain alert and maintain regular contact with local police units, especially when operating in areas previously marked as sensitive or conflict-prone.

These strengthened measures underscore the government’s commitment to balancing agricultural livelihoods with public safety, even as the state continues to grapple with the aftershocks of prolonged ethnic and civil unrest.
