Kangpokpi, July 3, 2025: The Chiru Students' Union, Northeast India (CSU, NEI), has issued a strong statement opposing the proposed construction of the so-called "German Road" or "Tiger Road" that is reportedly planned to stretch from Kangpokpi to Churachandpur through Naga ancestral territories.

In a press bulletin released on Wednesday, the CSU described the project as a "counterfeit" and "mendaciously fabricated" infrastructure initiative, stating that no historical, traditional, or legal basis exists for any such road within the region. The union contends that the proposed road is being pushed under the guise of development but is, in reality, a move to impose “unlawful claims” on Naga territories.

The student body called on the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to intervene urgently, urging the Government of India to ensure that no infrastructure project under any name should violate the territorial sanctity of Naga lands.

The CSU warned that any such project, if supported or permitted, would amount to "reckless endorsement of territorial impingement" and could destabilize the already fragile inter-community relations in the region. The bulletin also demanded the immediate dismantling of all alleged illegal camps of Kuki militant groups near Naga-inhabited areas, citing them as a threat to peace and security.

Reaffirming their position, the CSU emphasized:

“Nagas are not invaders, but we will defend our land, history, and rights by all means.”

The press bulletin was signed and released by the Information and Publicity Cell of CSU, NEI, headquartered at Nungsai Chiru in Kangpokpi District, Manipur.
