Silchar, July 5, 2025, Virthli: In a significant boost to organic farming and farmer empowerment in southern Assam, Hmar Agro Organic Producer Company Ltd. flagged off a 20-tonne consignment of organic pineapples from Hmarkhawlien - Lakhipur to New Delhi, in collaboration with the Cachar District Agriculture Office. The ceremonial dispatch was led by District Agriculture Officer Dr. A.R. Ahamed and marks a major milestone in Cachar's growing reputation as a hub for organic horticulture.
Cachar district, known for producing some of the finest pineapples in India - particularly those grown in the Hmarkhawlien and Lakhipur areas - is now gaining national attention for its scale and quality. The pineapples are cultivated organically across 1,500 hectares in Hmarkhawlien, Rajabazar, Binnakandi, and Lakhipur blocks by nearly 2,000 farmers, yielding approximately 40,000 metric tonnes annually.
Dr. Ahamed, addressing the gathering, said, “Our farmers are already supplying to Mizoram, Nagaland, and other parts of the country. Last year, we exported a consignment to Dubai. Another shipment is ready and will be flown from Guwahati as soon as road connectivity improves.”
The current shipment was facilitated with support from Trifac Agro Pvt. Ltd., exemplifying effective public-private cooperation. The pineapples were cultivated, packaged, and dispatched by Hmar Agro Organic Producer Company Ltd., a leading farmer-driven initiative that is playing a transformative role in the district’s agricultural economy.

The event was graced by key dignitaries including Dr. N.C. Das, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (Horticulture); Assam Gaurav awardee Manthan Hmar; Lalpieng Hmar, Chairman of the Farmer Producer Company; and CEO Makhanlal Dosad. Their presence reinforced the collective commitment to connecting Cachar’s organic produce to national and international markets.
