Imphal, July 5, 2025: In a significant step toward strengthening animal health and farmer welfare, the Government of Manipur, through its Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Services, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Insurance Company (NIC), Imphal. The agreement was signed at the Office Chamber of the Director, Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Services.
The MoU aims to implement the Livestock Insurance component under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) across the state, providing financial security to livestock owners in the event of animal loss due to disease, accidents, or natural calamities.

Officials stated that the initiative will help safeguard the livelihoods of farmers who depend on livestock for income and sustenance, while also promoting better animal health and veterinary care practices. The partnership with NIC ensures that eligible farmers can avail subsidized insurance coverage for their livestock, as per the central guidelines.
