Aizawl, July 2, 2025, Virthli: Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) President Pu Laltawnliana has strongly criticized the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) government, accusing it of failing to address the state’s deteriorating road conditions and misleading the public by not disclosing key details about road construction projects.
Addressing a press conference, Pu Laltawnliana said that between June 24 and July 2, Congress youth leaders undertook a fact-finding inspection of major highways, including the Vairengte–Aizawl and Khamrang–Sairang routes, which are among the state's most crucial road links. He stated that their findings confirmed serious road degradation, which he claimed was affecting commuters, emergency services, and workers alike.
He accused the state government and PWD Minister of downplaying or ignoring the issues, noting that despite public complaints and visible damage, the authorities have failed to take meaningful action. Pu Laltawnliana alleged that many parts of Mizoram remain plagued by unusable, potholed roads, contributing to an increasing number of road accidents, vehicle breakdowns, and injuries.
Raising concerns over government transparency, the Congress youth leader questioned the collection of a 2% cess on diesel and petrol from September 2024 to March 2025, supposedly for Road Maintenance, which amounted to Rs. 23.43 crore. “If the funds were collected from the public, why is the road condition across the state still so poor?” he asked.

He also highlighted the NH-06 Package 8 project (between Kawnpui and Khamrang), which remains under the supervision of Mizoram PWD. He said the PWD Minister's statement describing the road as not very important reveals a lack of seriousness and understanding of public hardship.
The Congress Youth Wing called for greater accountability from the ZPM government and demanded immediate road repairs, especially on high-traffic and lifeline routes, to prevent further inconvenience and danger to the public.
