Aizawl, June 30, 2025: Mizoram on Monday observed the 39th anniversary of ‘Remna Ni’ (Peace Day), commemorating the historic Mizoram Peace Accord signed on June 30, 1986, between the Government of India and the Mizo National Front (MNF) - a landmark agreement that brought an end to two decades of insurgency and ushered in an era of peace and stability.
Extending his greetings, the Governor of Mizoram expressed heartfelt wishes to the people, calling the day “a beacon of enduring peace, unity, and progress” for the state. In a message shared on social media, he stated,
“It is truly remarkable that Mizoram has emerged as the most peaceful state in India, rising above its history of insurgency to become a model of peace and orderliness. Let us continue to nurture this hard-earned harmony, fostering love, understanding, and togetherness for a brighter and peaceful Mizoram.”
Joining the commemoration, Chief Minister Lalduhoma also shared his heartfelt message on social media:
“Happy Peace Accord Day! Today, we remember Mizoram’s most significant day of peace, honoring the individuals, organizations, and churches who worked tirelessly to achieve it. Peace and security are the foundation of a nation’s progress. Let us continue to uphold and protect them.”
The Mizoram Peace Accord of 1986 is regarded as one of the most successful peace agreements in India’s modern history. It led to the disbanding of the MNF’s armed wing and paved the way for Mizoram to attain full statehood in 1987. Since then, Mizoram has maintained its reputation as a peaceful and politically stable state, with democratic institutions flourishing.
