Aizawl, July 5, 2025, Virthli: The Mizoram unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) inspected the deteriorating stretch of National Highway-06 (NH-06) between Sairang and Khamrang, one of the state’s most crucial transport routes, highlighting the urgent need for repair and restoration.
BJP Mizoram State President and MLA, Dr. K Beichhua, led the inspection team. Speaking to the media, he stated that the current condition of NH-06 - particularly the 40-kilometre stretch maintained by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) - is in a severely damaged state. He noted that the situation has worsened to the point where even essential goods cannot be transported smoothly, causing major hardships for the public.
Despite the Public Works Department (PWD) of Mizoram maintaining portions of the road, the segment under NHIDCL’s care is almost impassable. Truck Owner Associations and various stakeholders have raised serious concerns about the road's condition, with long-standing complaints yet to see concrete action, Dr. Beichhua added.

He further informed that a joint survey between the State Government, PWD, and NHIDCL is scheduled for July 7. Post-survey, the NHIDCL is expected to initiate repair works without delay.
Dr. Beichhua stressed that this inspection was not politically motivated, but a necessity driven by public hardship. He urged NHIDCL and relevant authorities to act with urgency, stating that this critical highway must not be neglected any further. The BJP Mizoram Headquarters is also set to escalate the matter to ensure swift remedial measures.
“The poor state of this highway is not just an inconvenience - it’s a crisis that disrupts livelihoods, trade, and connectivity. We are committed to pressing for immediate action,” he concluded.
