Lamka, June 20, 2025: The Zomi Council has strongly condemned the recent recovery of explosive devices near the Assam Rifles (AR) check gate in Mata, terming the act as a direct threat to public security and a sinister attempt to disrupt the fragile peace in the region. In an official press statement issued from its Lamka headquarters, the Council described the act as "cowardly and malicious," warning that such incidents endanger innocent lives and create widespread insecurity.
The Council urged authorities to launch a thorough and impartial investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly. It appealed to all civil society bodies and citizens to remain vigilant and reject violence in all forms, upholding the values of peace, justice, and mutual respect.
In addition, the Council expressed condolences over the recent death of tribal chief Mrs. Hoikholhing of Langchingmanbi, who was reportedly killed during security forces’ firing. It called for the incident to be resolved amicably through reconciliation and customary conflict resolution practices.
Acknowledging the public reaction to her death, including calls for an indefinite shutdown, the Zomi Council urged communities to reconsider such actions in light of the socio-economic hardships they cause. It appealed for calm and a return to normalcy, emphasizing that peace and wisdom must guide the way forward.
"Let this sorrowful chapter be concluded with dignity, wisdom, and a shared commitment to peace," the Council stated.
