Agartala, June 12, 2025: In a shocking turn of events, the decomposed body of a missing electrician was recovered from a freezer in Gandacherra market, unraveling a chilling murder linked to a love triangle that has rocked Tripura.
The victim, Sariful Islam (28), an electrician associated with the Agartala Smart City Mission, had been missing since June 8. His family had initially feared abduction. However, the case took a gruesome turn when police, acting on a confession, discovered his body stuffed inside a trolley bag hidden in a freezer at a shop owned by the accused’s family.
According to police, the crime was orchestrated by Dr. Dibakar Saha (28), who allegedly lured Sariful to a house in South Indranagar’s Kabarkhala area under the pretext of giving him a gift. There, he was ambushed and strangled with the help of Joydeep Das (20), Animesh Yadav (21), and Nabanita Das (25).
The killers had reportedly pre-planned the disposal, purchasing a trolley bag in advance. The next morning, Dibakar's parents - Dipak Saha (52) and Debika Saha (48) - transported the body to Gandacherra, about 120 km from Agartala, where they hid it inside the freezer at their market shop.
All six individuals involved in the murder - Dibakar, his parents, and the three accomplices - have been arrested. Police cited digital evidence and text messages pointing to a bitter romantic rivalry as the motive.

Investigators said the motive stemmed from a complex love triangle. Sariful had been in a relationship with Dibakar’s cousin, which was opposed by her family due to religious differences. However, Dibakar himself was reportedly in love with the same woman, fueling jealousy and leading to the murder.
West Tripura SP Dr. Kiran Kumar K confirmed the arrests and said a thorough investigation is underway. The accused will be produced before the court on Thursday.
The shocking murder has sparked outrage and deep concern across the state, with many demanding justice and stricter safety measures for working youth in the region.
