Guwahati, June 12, 2025: Renowned classical dancer and cultural icon Dr. Sonal Mansingh was conferred the prestigious Srimanta Sankaradeva Award 2023 in a solemn ceremony held to mark Sri Madhabdev Tithi. The award was presented by Hon’ble Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria in recognition of her immense contributions to Indian classical dance and cultural heritage.
The ceremony paid tribute to the legacy of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, the 15th-century saint-reformer whose teachings continue to shape Assamese culture and Vaishnavite traditions. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Mansingh, stating, “Her life is an inspiration for lakhs of people, and we are honoured to present her this coveted award.”

A Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan awardee, Dr. Sonal Mansingh is one of India’s most revered classical dancers, with mastery in Bharatanatyam and Odissi. She began training at a young age under eminent gurus and has dedicated her life to the promotion of Indian art and culture globally.
In addition to her performances across the world, she is also a scholar, choreographer, and cultural activist. Dr. Mansingh was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2018 for her contributions to the field of art.

The Srimanta Sankaradeva Award, instituted by the Assam government, honours individuals who have made significant contributions in the fields of art, culture, literature, and social service in alignment with the spiritual and cultural ethos of Srimanta Sankardeva.
