Sakawrdai , June 7, 2025: In a major agricultural support initiative, the Sinlung Hills Council (SHC) organized a mass distribution program of areca (betel nut) seedlings, with 45,000 seedlings distributed across 31 villages under the Council’s jurisdiction. The event was graced by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pu Ricky Lalremsanga, who emphasized that the program was aimed at helping Hmar farmers cope with ongoing challenges.
CEM Ricky noted that the SHC, through the Soil & Horticulture Cell (SHC), has been making dedicated efforts to provide financial and material relief to those severely affected by economic and livelihood hardships. He reiterated SHC’s commitment to ensuring direct support to areca growers in the region.
Speaking at the event, Pu Lalhriatchhûnga Hmar, Member in charge of Agriculture, stated that although the SHC is governed by the MNF-HPC(R) alliance, the distribution of areca saplings was not politically driven. He clarified that any farmer within the Sinlung region willing to cultivate areca is eligible for support, regardless of political background.
