Search Operations Continue in Manipur; NSCN, PLA, PREPAK Cadres Arrested

Imphal, June 20, 2025: Security forces in Manipur continue to conduct intensive search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable regions across both hill and valley districts. These operations are part of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security amid prevailing tensions in the state.

The authorities ensured the movement of 261 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway 37 (NH-37), with security convoys deployed along sensitive stretches to guarantee safe and unhindered passage. Strict security measures have also been reinforced at key vulnerable points across the state to prevent any disruptive activities.

As part of the heightened vigilance, a total of 112 checkpoints or nakas were set up in various districts, covering both hill and valley areas. During these operations, six individuals were detained for further investigation by police personnel stationed at the checkpoints.

In a major development on June 19, an active cadre of the NSCN (Niki Sumi) faction was arrested by security forces from Kamranga village under Jiribam Police Station in Jiribam District. The individual, identified as 46-year-old Gaisinglung Meiringmei, also known as Ronald, hails from Mukti Samjang village under Nungba Police Station in Noney District. He was reportedly involved in several cases of kidnapping for ransom and extortion along NH-37. Items recovered from his possession included two mobile phones, a power bank, and a side bag.

On the same day, a joint operation led to the arrest of two more insurgents from a stretch between Border Pillars 75 and 74 under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal District. The two arrested individuals have been identified as Nambram Taba Nungshi, also known as Shinthoiba, a 19-year-old from Ngute Road in Churachandpur associated with the banned outfit PREPAK (PRO), and Thounaojam Anthony Singh, 28, from Kadamtala in Jiribam District, linked to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Continuing the crackdown, on June 20, Manipur Police apprehended another active cadre of the RPF/PLA from Kakching Turel Wangma under Kakching Police Station in Kakching District. The individual, Naorem Surjit Singh, 49, is a resident of Kakching Turel Wangma Ningthou Pareng. One mobile phone was recovered during the arrest.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order in the state, with continuous operations aimed at neutralizing insurgent threats and ensuring the smooth flow of essential services and public safety.
