Manipur: ITLF Vows to Continue Indefinite Shutdown Until Proper Agreements Are Reached

VIRTHLI

Tuithaphai, June 20, 2025: The indefinite shutdown called by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) in Churachandpur continues, following the brutal killing of Mrs. Hoikholhing Haokip, wife of Langchingmanbi Village Chief Mr. Khaikhogin Haokip. While no untoward incidents have been reported, the shutdown has severely disrupted normal life in the district.

ITLF Vows to Continue Indefinite Shutdown Until Proper Agreements Are Reached

In a show of solidarity, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, has enforced a total shutdown in Kangpokpi district from 1 PM on Friday, June 20, to 6 PM on Saturday, June 21. CoTU described the killing as a “cold-blooded” and “targeted” act. In a press statement issued Thursday night, the group stated that Mrs. Hoikholhing was mercilessly shot by alleged Meitei militants at Langchingmanbi on the evening of June 19, and later succumbed to her injuries.

Through an update on its WhatsApp channel, the ITLF declared that the indefinite shutdown will continue until “proper and meaningful agreements” are reached with the government. The forum reiterated its core demands, which include:

Immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing

Strict and unbiased enforcement of the buffer zone

Deployment of neutral central forces to prevent further violence
