Imphal, June 14, 2025: The Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC), Imphal, has issued a strong statement asserting that the concept of “Kukiland” has no basis in the state of Manipur, calling it an “imaginary construct” aimed at distorting facts and grabbing indigenous land. The press communique, released on Saturday, claims that this narrative is the root cause of the ongoing conflict in the region.
Citing historical and official records, the FNCC stated that Kukis are not indigenous to Manipur and are primarily migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh. The committee expressed concern over recent attempts by certain Kuki groups to rename key landmarks of the state - such as Mt. Koubru, Mt. Thangjing, and S.P. Road - as efforts to overwrite the heritage of native communities. The FNCC termed these acts as not only provocative but a direct threat to indigenous identity.
The statement further accused Kuki militant groups of constructing illegal bunkers and shelters, erecting gates on public roads, and encroaching upon forest and indigenous lands in Naga territories. It described these actions as serious violations of law and a threat to peaceful coexistence.
“These actions must stop immediately,” the FNCC stated, warning that continued aggression and illegal occupation would provoke countermeasures. It called for the immediate withdrawal of Kuki militant groups from Naga areas and urged all parties to respect historical truth and the rule of law.
The FNCC also linked the current unrest in Manipur to narcoterrorism and unchecked illegal immigration, blaming the flow of drugs, arms, and foreign nationals for destabilizing the region and empowering Kuki militants.

While reaffirming its belief in peaceful coexistence, the FNCC warned that “creation of imaginary homelands on someone else’s land is not coexistence, it is encroachment, and it will be dealt with an iron hand.”
The press communique was issued by the Media Cell of the FNCC.
