Kohima, June 2, 2025, Virthli: The Nagaland Police have issued an official press release to clarify the enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations within the state. As part of routine checks, the police will be conducting ILP verification drives across Nagaland from time to time.

However, the press release emphasizes that police personnel are not authorized to impose fines for non-possession of ILP papers or valid documents. This authority lies solely with the magistrates.

Reiterating the legal boundaries, the Nagaland Police urged the public to cooperate with checks while also affirming that only designated magistrates can levy fines for ILP violations.

The ILP is a travel document required by non-locals to enter Nagaland, implemented under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873.
