Multiple Arrests in Manipur as Security Forces Target Extortion, Insurgency, and Drugs

Imphal, June 6, 2025: Manipur Police and security forces have intensified intelligence-based combing and cordon-and-search operations across vulnerable and fringe areas in both the hill and valley districts as part of a sustained crackdown on insurgency, extortion, and drug-related activities.

On June 5, 2025, an active cadre of the proscribed group PREPAK (Pro), identified as Loitongbam Jugin Singh, aged 57, of Wangoo Ahallup Mayai Leikai, was arrested under the jurisdiction of Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur District. The individual was reportedly involved in extortion activities targeting the general public, educational institutions, and local establishments in the valley areas. A mobile phone and a SIM card were recovered from his possession.

On the same day, security forces arrested three active cadres of the banned outfit RPF/PLA near Khudeiban Lampak in Taothong Khunou under Lamsang Police Station, Imphal West District. The arrested individuals, identified as Salam Amarjit Singh (37), Hijam Anand Singh (27), and Sharubam Sarat Singh (28), all hailed from Andro Khunou Torongthel in Imphal East District. During the arrest, security personnel seized two mobile phones, a wallet, and three Aadhaar cards from the suspects.

In a separate operation, security forces recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives from Keipha Road and Thamnapokpi areas under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur District. The seized items included an SLR rifle, a Sten machine gun with an empty magazine, two 12-bore pistols, three No. 36 hand grenades, a Chinese hand grenade, and an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately 2.145 kilograms. Also recovered were eleven detonators, seven PEK packages weighing around 600 grams, four INSAS empty cartridges, one live ballistic round, three live rounds of 12-bore ammunition, bulletproof jackets and helmets, BP plates, an INSAS magazine, two Baofeng communication sets with a charger, and various other explosive components and concealment materials.

In a major anti-drug operation, security forces intercepted a Hyundai Creta vehicle near Daili Village along National Highway 2 under Kangpokpi Police Station. Upon inspection, seventy-five soap cases containing suspected brown sugar, weighing approximately 2.88 kilograms including packaging, were found concealed inside the vehicle. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure, identified as M. Ngaiyu Vekhe and A. Dahnii Abraham, both residents of Thingba Khullen in Senapati District. The narcotics and the vehicle have been taken into custody, and investigations are underway.

Security forces continue their intensified operations across the state to root out insurgent activities, dismantle extortion networks, and curb drug trafficking. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, public safety, and the rule of law in Manipur.
