Aizawl, June 17, 2025: In a proud moment for Mizoram, Pi V. Lalhmangaihi, Nursing Officer at Civil Hospital Aizawl, who received the National Florence Nightingale Award on May 30, was today honoured by the Mizoram Government. Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii presented her with a state citation and a cash reward of ₹50,000 during a formal event at her office chamber.
The felicitation event was led by Pi Lalnunmawii Ralte, Joint Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, and began with a brief report by Pi Lalchhanhimi, Joint Director (Nursing). Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii expressed pride in Lalhmangaihi’s achievement and highlighted the excellence of Mizo nurses across India.
"It is indeed a moment of pride that among lakhs of nurses across India, a Mizo nurse is honoured with the Florence Nightingale Award. Pi V. Lalhmangaihi’s dedication and commitment to service is exemplary," said the Health Minister, urging nurses to continue striving for excellence in patient care.
Also present were Pu H. Lalengmawia, IAS, Secretary H&FW, and Dr. S.R. Ngurchamliana, Director HME, who conveyed their congratulations. Pi V. Lalhmangaihi extended gratitude to the Mizoram Nursing Council, the organising body behind her nomination, and to the State Government for its official recognition.
The Florence Nightingale Award, instituted in 1973 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, is the highest national honour for nurses. It recognises exceptional service in hospitals, communities, education, and healthcare outreach.
Pi V. Lalhmangaihi is the 17th recipient from Mizoram, and joins a growing list of nurses from the state who have brought national recognition to the profession. Five other past awardees from Aizawl District also attended the ceremony.

The award nominations are made from across India by Central, State/UT governments, and voluntary organisations, and are selected through a national-level committee.
