Milestone for Mizoram Rail Connectivity as Sairang - Hortoki Speed Trial Succeeds

Sairang, June 4, 2025: A successful railway speed trial was conducted today between Sairang Railway Station and Hortoki, covering a stretch of approximately 15 kilometers. The trial began in the morning hours, with the Northeast Frontier Railway authorities carrying out the run as scheduled.

A fully loaded freight train with several wagons departed from Sairang station this morning as part of the trial. It was scheduled to reach Mualkhang station after passing through the new section. The trial started around 9 AM and proceeded smoothly along the route.

The initial run saw the train cruising at around 35 kmph with loaded wagons. Following that, it achieved a speed of 50 kmph while heading from Sairang towards Hortoki. On the return journey from Hortoki to Sairang, it reached a top speed of 80 kmph. Officials noted that in the near future, they plan to conduct further trials at 110 kmph to assess the line's maximum potential.

The speed trial was conducted with utmost care, especially on sections with bridges and elevated terrain. After the main trial, a trolley inspection was carried out to examine any damage or irregularities on the tracks. According to the railway team, the outcome of today’s speed trial was highly satisfactory.

This trial marks a significant step forward in enhancing rail connectivity in Mizoram. Once fully operational, the Sairang-Hortoki rail line is expected to play a key role in improving logistics, transportation, and economic development in the region.
