Shillong, June 13, 2025: The Meghalaya Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, has approved the Chief Minister’s Regional Connectivity Scheme 2025, a major initiative aimed at improving intra-state connectivity by linking District Headquarters with Block and Regional Headquarters.
Under the scheme, the government will introduce a fleet of 90 buses to address transportation challenges faced by students, office workers, and the general public, particularly in rural and remote areas. The scheme is designed to enhance mobility and ensure reliable and affordable public transport access across the state.
To support the implementation, the government has announced a financing model under which it will provide up to 50 percent of the total vehicle cost. Of this amount, 35 percent will be given as a government subsidy towards the on-road cost, while the beneficiaries will contribute 5 percent. The remaining 60 percent of the cost will be financed through bank loans, which are to be repaid over a period of five years.
