Imphal, June 2, 2025, Virthli: Amid ongoing floods and landslides across Manipur triggered by persistent heavy rains, the state government has issued a strict order prohibiting the hoarding and unauthorized stockpiling of essential commodities. The directive, issued by the Directorate of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF&PD), aims to ensure the continued availability of vital supplies to the public during this period of disruption.
In a public notice released on Monday, Director K. Bono Singh invoked powers under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, warning that no individual, trader, wholesaler, retailer, or business entity shall engage in hoarding or illegal stockpiling of essential items.
The order comes in the wake of widespread damage and supply chain disruptions caused by inclement weather in multiple districts. Authorities fear that artificial shortages could worsen the crisis if hoarding is left unchecked.
