Lakhimpur, June 2, 2025, Virthli: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited Amtola village in Lakhimpur district, one of the worst-hit areas following intense flooding triggered by heavy upstream rainfall. The deluge has caused widespread damage to homes, farmlands, and local infrastructure, leaving many families displaced.
Sharing visuals from the ground, the Chief Minister posted on social media, “With our people, always!” reaffirming the government’s commitment to stand by the flood-affected communities during this critical time.
Speaking to the media during his visit, Sarma said, “Our administration is working tirelessly to provide immediate relief. Once the situation normalises, we will ensure swift rehabilitation of all losses suffered by the people.”
Relief operations are currently underway, with district authorities distributing essential supplies, evacuating residents from vulnerable areas, and assessing the extent of damage. Medical teams and disaster response units have also been deployed to prevent further hardships.
The Chief Minister's visit has offered reassurance to affected residents, many of whom are facing displacement and property loss. State officials confirmed that a long-term rehabilitation and compensation package is in the works, to be rolled out once water levels recede.
