Major Arms Haul and Drug Bust in Manipur; KYKL Operatives Nabbed

Imphal, June 1, 2025, Virthli: Security forces in Manipur continued their intensified search operations and area domination exercises across vulnerable hill and valley districts, leading to significant recoveries of illegal arms and narcotics, as well as the arrest of key insurgent operatives.

In a statement released by the Manipur Police, authorities reported the recovery of two SBML guns without serial numbers during a search in the general area of Thanlon village, under Thanlon Police Station in Pherzawl District.

In a separate operation in Wabagai Thingel Leikai under Hiyanglam Police Station, Kakching District, security personnel recovered a cache of arms and ammunition. The seized items included:

  • 2 INSAS rifles with magazines
  • 4 .303 sniper rifles with magazines
  • 2 SLR rifles with magazines
  • 1 anti-riot gun
  • 18 rounds of .303 ammunition
  • 27 rounds of 7.62 ammunition
  • 20 rounds of 5.56x30 mm ammunition
  • 3 vehicle tyre rubber tubes

In a major narcotics seizure on May 31, 2025, police intercepted a Mahindra Thar near the Imphal Telegraph Office in Imphal West District. A thorough inspection led to the discovery of 100 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder, weighing approximately 1.16 kilograms, hidden in the vehicle's rooftop compartment. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the case; Wangpem Lamkang (20), son of Shetphung Lamkang from Lamkang Khunjai, Chandel District, Jacop Shangkhil (18), son of Bening Shangkhil from Japhou, Chandel District, Wanghon Khular (18), son of Ramshei Khular from Leipun Tampak, Chandel District.

Additionally, on the same day, two active cadres of the proscribed KYKL (SOREPA) outfit were arrested from separate locations - Mutum Phibou under Wangoi Police Station and Kakching Khunou, Chekshapat Maning Leikai under Kakching Police Station. The arrested individuals were identified as Kharibam Nimai Singh (45), also known as Vicky,  Thingnam Sangeeta Devi (42)

According to police, the duo was involved in extortion activities targeting the general public, private schools, and a stone crusher plant in the valley areas. Four mobile phones and two Aadhaar cards were seized from them.

Manipur Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
