MADC VC Bye-Elections Held Peacefully; BJP Emerges as Leading Party

Siaha, June 17, 2025: The Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) successfully conducted bye-elections to 13 Village Councils (VCs) on June 17, 2025, under the supervision of the Mizoram State Election Commission. The polls were necessitated due to vacancies caused by the demise of sitting members and other resignations.

A total of 29 VC seats were contested - 24 General seats and 5 Reserved seats. Voting took place smoothly between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with enthusiastic participation from the electorate. Following the close of polls, counting was conducted immediately by the respective Returning Officers, and results were declared on the same day.

Siaha Constituency:

Meisatla I & II: ZPM won 2 seats

Siaha Vaihpi I: BJP secured 1 seat

New Colony I & II: INC and ZPM won 1 seat each

Siahatla II: INC won 1 seat

Noaotla I: ZPM - 3 seats, BJP - 2 seats

Chhaolo III: ZPM - 2 seats, BJP - 2 seats

Palak Constituency:

Chakhei II: ZPM - 1 seat, BJP - 4 seats

Siasi: ZPM won 1 seat

Tipa D: ZPM secured 2 seats

Tokalo: BJP swept all 5 seats

Khaikhy: BJP won 1 seat

Party-Wise Tally:

BJP – 15 Seats

ZPM – 9 Seats

INC – 3 Seats

Independent – 2 Seats

MNF – 0 Seats

The smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections was widely appreciated. The BJP emerged as the leading party, securing over half of the total seats contested. The outcome reflects the evolving political landscape in the MADC region.
