Tuithaphai/Lamka, June 7, 2025, Virthli: In a significant show of solidarity, the Hmar Youth Association (HYA) and the Young Paite Association (YPA) convened a joint meeting on June 6, 2025, at the HYA General Headquarters Office in Lamka. The meeting, held in the spirit of unity and mutual understanding, culminated in the issuance of a Joint Declaration addressing recent tensions and affirming the organizations' commitment to peaceful coexistence.
The two youth bodies expressed concern over the spread of unfounded propaganda by certain elements within society, cautioning that such misinformation has the potential to fuel misunderstandings and hostility between the closely-related Hmar and Paite communities. They firmly rejected such divisive narratives and pledged to uphold and deepen their historical brotherly bond.
The HYA and YPA jointly resolved to continue fostering their brotherly relationship, even in the face of divisive propaganda, and to work towards an even deeper mutual understanding.
They emphasized that conflicts involving individuals - particularly among the youth - should not be interpreted or portrayed as communal issues, but rather addressed privately and responsibly between the persons involved.
They also pledged to make every possible effort to thwart the attempts of those seeking to create division and tension among communities that have long lived together in harmony and share the same faith.
The declaration concluded with a verse from Psalm 133:1 - “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!” - highlighting the spiritual and cultural foundation of the message.
The statement was jointly signed by Lianmuanthang Valte, President, YPA GHQs, Upa Laldawnlien Varte, General President, HYA GHQs, T. Ginthianlal, General Secretary, YPA GHQs, Lamramsiem Zote, General Secretary, HYA GHQs
This declaration stands as a firm message of reconciliation, brotherhood, and resilience in the face of divisive forces.
