Dispur, June 4, 2024, Virthli: The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur, approved several landmark decisions aimed at boosting infrastructure, higher education, and welfare schemes across the state.
In a significant move, the Cabinet approved the renaming of the “Superintendent of Police” designation to “Senior Superintendent of Police.” A key highlight of the meeting was the greenlight given to ₹3,875 crore for the construction of 348 km of roads in Dima Hasao, marking the highest-ever allocation for the district.
The Cabinet also sanctioned ₹843 crore for the development of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and approved the establishment of Swahid Kanaklata Barua University at Bholaguri Tea Estate, Gohpur, with an outlay of ₹400 crore.
To boost women entrepreneurship and self-reliance, ₹1,450 crore was approved under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Asoni and Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan. Additionally, a one-time grant of ₹15 lakh each will be provided to 300 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Farm Produce Companies under the Mukhyamantri Utkarsh Yojana.

The Cabinet also cleared the Mukhya Mantri Jibon Anuprerana Scheme, further strengthening the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and grassroots development.
