Silchar, June 20, 2025: In a major success for the state’s anti-narcotics drive, the Cachar Police intercepted a vehicle in Silchar and recovered contraband worth an estimated ₹5 crore, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced today.
The operation, carried out by the Cachar district police, led to the seizure of:
• 3.095 kg of morphine,
• 240 cartons of Burmese cigarettes, and
• 560 units of banned Godzilla products (suspected to be narcotic or illegal consumables).
The vehicle was reportedly entering from a neighbouring state, indicating potential cross-border smuggling activity. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
Taking to social media, CM Sarma praised the police force:
"Drugs worth ₹5cr – now history. Good job @assampolice!"

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, as part of Assam’s broader push to combat the drug menace and safeguard youth and public health.
Authorities have launched further investigations to trace the source and destination of the seized items.
