Pherzawl, June 29, 2025: A major traffic disruption has occurred along the Tipaimukh Road in Manipur's interior Pherzawl district after a culvert near C. Zalen village collapsed due to strong water currents. The affected section lies around KM 110 from Churachandpur, between C. Zalen and Sainoujang villages under Henglep Sub-Division.
The culvert, crucial for daily connectivity in this remote region - gave way as heavy water flow eroded its foundation and protection walls. With the structure fully collapsed, the road is now impassable for vehicles.
According to sources, the damaged portion spans about 20 feet, and no alternate diversion or bypass has been constructed yet. Locals have reported the issue to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), which maintains the road. However, no restoration or diversion work has commenced so far.
The collapse has severely impacted connectivity to several villages along the Tipaimukh road, including Sainoujang, Leijangphai, Tallian, Suangpehmun, Thanlon, Dialkhai, Vaipheimual, Joutung, Bukpi, and others in the Hmarram belt. Residents now face serious challenges in transportation, access to essential services, and emergency care.
