Guwahati, June 10, 2025: A team from the City Guwahati Police Department (CGPD), operating under Geetanagar Police Station, has successfully busted an interstate carjacking racket involving a fraudulent car rental operation. Acting on a complaint lodged on May 22, 2025, the police arrested five individuals and recovered three stolen vehicles.
According to the complaint, the victim had entrusted three vehicles to a car rental agency named "Rent My Wheels," which was operated by Nayan Deka and Gagan Baishya. The vehicles - a red Jeep Compass bearing registration number ML05X9988, a black Jeep Compass with registration AS01FT4452, and a black Tata Altroz registered as AS01EV1888 - were reported missing shortly after being handed over. The GPS trackers installed in the cars were deactivated in Silchar, and repeated attempts to contact the agency owners failed, raising serious suspicions of foul play.
The investigation revealed that the vehicles had been misappropriated and illegally handed over to Sadiqur Rahman Choudhury and his associate Kasim Choudhury. Without the owner's knowledge or consent, the accused either sold the vehicles at significantly undervalued prices or used them as collateral for financial gain.

Following intensive efforts, CGPD apprehended the five accused - Nayan Deka, Gagan Baishya, Rituraj Deka, Sadiqur Rahman Choudhury, and Kasim Choudhury. The three stolen vehicles were recovered from different locations, and evidence suggests that the vehicles were trafficked to neighbouring states such as Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused, and further investigations are ongoing to trace the network and recover additional vehicles that may have been similarly misappropriated.
