Assam Govt to Support Hmar Language Education and Culture Through Bhasha Gaurav Scheme

The meeting focused on strengthening Hmar medium schools in the Dima Hasao and Cachar districts and exploring ways to introduce Hmar as a Modern Indian Language (MIL) subject at the secondary level.

Dr. Pegu acknowledged the cultural and educational significance of the Hmar language and stated that the State Government will consider granting a corpus fund to the Hmar Sahitya Sabha under the Bhasha Gaurav Scheme. The proposed support aims to assist in the preservation and promotion of the Hmar language, literature, and cultural heritage.

This engagement reflects the Assam Government's commitment to inclusivity and support for linguistic and cultural diversity, particularly among tribal and backward communities.

The Hmar Sahitya Sabha has long played a pivotal role in promoting the Hmar language and script, and the move is expected to boost both language education and community pride among Hmar-speaking populations in Assam.
