Guwahati, June 13, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has written to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami seeking a thorough investigation into the suspicious death of Rosmita Hojai, a young woman from Dima Hasao district, who was found dead in the Ganga River in Rishikesh after being missing for five days.
In the letter dated June 12, 2025, Dr. Sarma described the incident as “serious and distressing.” Rosmita reportedly went missing under suspicious circumstances on June 6, shortly after arriving in Rishikesh. According to her family, she had travelled to Delhi to appear for a recruitment examination and was later accompanied by two individuals to Rishikesh, where she eventually went missing.
Dr. Sarma noted that the events leading to her disappearance and death raise “serious concerns of possible foul play.” A Zero FIR was initially filed in Assam by the victim’s mother and has since been transferred to the appropriate police station in Uttarakhand.
Expressing concern over the “deep anguish” experienced by Rosmita’s family, the Assam CM requested CM Dhami’s personal intervention to ensure a comprehensive and time-bound investigation, examining all possible angles. If any criminal involvement is found, Dr. Sarma urged that the culprits be “identified, apprehended, and prosecuted in accordance with the law” so that justice is delivered.
