Itanagar, June 16, 2025: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) staged a massive rally in Itanagar today under the banner “Save Arunachal from Illegal Immigrants,” drawing hundreds of students, activists, and concerned citizens. The march began at Akashdeep and concluded at the Raj Bhawan, marking a renewed call for decisive action against illegal immigration in the state.
AAPSU’s demonstration was backed by several community-based organizations (CBOs) and district student unions (DSUs), who voiced unified opposition to the growing presence of Chakma and Hajong settlers and other undocumented immigrants. Protesters carried placards, raised slogans, and submitted a 12-point memorandum to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs through the Chief Secretary, urging immediate intervention.
Key Demands:
• Deportation of all illegal immigrants, particularly Chakma and Hajong settlers
• Strict enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations
• Re-verification and cleansing of the state’s electoral roll, including the removal of non-APST voters
• Protection of Arunachal Pradesh’s indigenous identity, land rights, and demographic integrity
Speaking at the rally, AAPSU President Dozi Tana Tara said the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants was endangering the constitutional rights and cultural heritage of the indigenous population. “We are not against humanity, but we are for justice,” Tara stated. “If deportation is not possible, the Centre must consider relocation. Arunachal cannot bear this demographic burden any longer.”
AAPSU General Secretary Ritum Tali raised serious concern over alleged double voters—non-tribal individuals illegally listed in electoral rolls - and warned of further marginalization of Scheduled Tribes if urgent steps are not taken.
The union also cited incidents of land encroachment, misuse of government welfare schemes, and law-and-order concerns, including a recent case in Tissing-Singpho village, where a tribal woman’s property was allegedly seized by illegal settlers.
Security was tight during the rally, which remained peaceful and orderly.
AAPSU welcomed the Centre’s recent directive to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, calling it a step in the right direction, and urged similar action in Arunachal.
