Union Agriculture Minister Virtually Inaugurates Horticulture College Building in Mizoram

Aizawl, May 15, 2025, Virthli (ONP):The Administrative-cum-Academic Building of the College of Horticulture in Thenzawl, Mizoram, was virtually inaugurated today by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The ceremony saw Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma attending in person at the Thenzawl campus, while Mizoram Governor Dr. V.K. Singh joined the proceedings virtually from his office.

Union Minister Chouhan, who was unable to travel to Mizoram as planned due to adverse weather conditions in the Guwahati area, conveyed his apologies and addressed the gathering via video conference from Nagaland. "Dear brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces of Mizoram! I was supposed to meet you today but due to bad weather I am unable to come. I apologize for this. I will join you virtually from Nagaland and will visit you soon," the Minister stated.

In his virtual address, Shri Chouhan commended Mizoram for its peaceful society, rich cultural heritage, and significant potential in the agricultural sector, particularly horticulture. He emphasized the crucial need for integrating modern agricultural technologies and providing comprehensive training to farmers in the hilly terrains to enhance productivity and sustainability. The Minister highlighted that the newly inaugurated facility is envisioned as a pivotal center for education, research, and empowering farmers across the entire North Eastern region.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, present at the inauguration site in Thenzawl, expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of the colleges affiliated with the Central Agricultural University (CAU) in Mizoram, specifically mentioning the College of Horticulture in Thenzawl and the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry in Selesih. He underscored the vital importance of these institutions for the regional development. Chief Minister Lalduhoma further stated that Mizoram's strong base in horticulture and animal husbandry requires continued support through targeted outreach and training programs to maximize its potential.
