Churachandpur, May 24, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a major crackdown on the drug trade, Manipur Police arrested two individuals in separate operations in Churachandpur district and seized narcotics and cash worth over ₹2.3 crores.
On May 22, security forces apprehended 52-year-old Doukholet Hanghal from Mongkot Khopi village under Churachandpur Police Station. A search of his residence led to the recovery of 870 grams of brown sugar valued at approximately ₹1.74 crores, and 20 soap cases containing suspected No. 4 heroin weighing 260 grams, estimated to be worth ₹52 lakhs. Authorities also seized ₹29.5 lakhs in cash, allegedly earned from drug dealings, along with two Baofeng radio sets with base, a mobile phone, and an Aadhaar card.
The following day, on May 23, another individual, Mrs. Chigenvung (46) of Kanan Veng, currently residing in Tangnuam village, was arrested. Police seized 25 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing 289 grams, ₹8 lakhs in cash, and one mobile phone from her possession.
Manipur Police stated that both arrests were part of ongoing operations to combat narcotics trafficking in the region. Investigations are currently underway.
