Agartala, May 22, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a significant achievement, Kenneth Chakma from Silachari village in Gomati district, Tripura, has secured All India Rank (AIR) 116 in the 2025 UPSC Indian Forest Service (IFoS) Examination. He is the sole candidate from Tripura to qualify for the IFoS this year.
Currently serving as a Senior Geologist with the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Chakma holds a Master’s degree in Applied Geology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. He is also a GATE and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) qualifier. His early education was at Holy Cross School in Agartala and Vikas Vidyalaya in Visakhapatnam.
Chakma had enrolled in a Ph.D. program at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, but paused his research to pursue his ambition of joining the civil services. After four previous attempts, he succeeded on his fifth try, demonstrating remarkable perseverance.
His father, Uttam Kumar Chakma, is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer currently serving as a Secretary in the Government of Tripura. Kenneth’s success has been widely celebrated across the state, particularly among the Chakma community and youth in rural areas.
Chakma is set to join the 2025 batch of All India Services officers in September at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. Following the foundation course, he will undergo specialized training at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) in Dehradun.
His accomplishment is expected to inspire aspiring civil servants from Tripura and the broader Northeast region.
