Mizoram: By-Elections Announced in 13 Village Councils under MADC; Model Code of Conduct Comes into Force

Aizawl, May 22, 2025, Virthli (ONP): The State Election Commission (SEC), Mizoram has officially announced by-elections to 13 Village Councils under the jurisdiction of the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) in Siaha District. The elections will fill a total of 51 seats, including 13 reserved for women.

According to the notification, polling will be held on June 18, 2025 (Tuesday), between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Counting of votes will take place immediately after polling at the respective polling stations.

By-Elections Announced in 13 Village Councils under MADC

The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into immediate effect within the concerned Village Council areas following the announcement. The MCC will remain in force until the conclusion of the election process, the SEC stated.

The last date for filing nominations is May 31, 2025, with scrutiny scheduled for June 3, and the last date for withdrawal set for June 5. The entire election process is expected to be completed by June 22, 2025.

The by-elections are necessary to fill vacancies caused by expiration of terms and other administrative requirements. The SEC has directed all candidates, political parties, and government departments to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct to ensure free and fair elections.

The Mizoram State Election Commission has also urged the public to cooperate fully with election officials to maintain the integrity of the democratic process in the region.
