Pherzawl Marks World Hypertension Day with Community Walkathon and Awareness Campaign

Pherzawl, May 23, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a determined bid to combat the growing health challenge of high blood pressure, the District Health Society of Pherzawl observed World Hypertension Day with a multifaceted awareness campaign hosted at PMS Jr High School. The initiative brought together public officials, educators, healthcare workers, and students to underscore the dangers of hypertension and promote healthy lifestyle choices.

Mannuamching, Deputy Commissioner of Pherzawl, inaugurated the event as Chief Guest, calling for community-wide action against the “silent killer” that is hypertension. In her keynote address, she stressed the importance of preventive healthcare, highlighting poor dietary habits, sedentary lifestyles, and stress as key contributors to rising hypertension rates. She urged citizens to embrace routine exercise and nutritious diets, announcing the continuation of a district-wide blood pressure screening drive through June 16.

“To make a real difference, we must bring healthcare to the doorstep of every citizen,” said Mannuamching, directing local health workers to intensify outreach efforts during the extended campaign period.

The event kicked off with a spirited Walkathon led by the Deputy Commissioner herself, symbolizing the day's theme of active living. Joining her were T. Lalboi Haokip, Superintendent of Police; Joel G. Haokip; health department officials; and dozens of students and teachers from PMS Jr High School and Pherzawl Government High School.

The Walkathon and awareness sessions aimed to foster a culture of preventive care by encouraging participants to monitor their blood pressure regularly and adopt healthier lifestyles. Informative sessions were held by local health officials, and educational materials on hypertension prevention were distributed to attendees.

Zenngaihlun, District Program Manager of Pherzawl, and N. Vashti, DI of Tipaimukh, also participated in the campaign, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving public health outcomes across the district.
