Aizawl, May 23, 2025, Virthli (ONP): Mizoram's Social Welfare Minister, Pi Lalrinpuii, convened a significant meeting today to discuss issues concerning the LGBTQI+ community, with a focus on inclusivity, welfare, and policy direction.
The meeting reviewed current initiatives and deliberated on the state government's approach to LGBTQI+ concerns. Participants discussed the need to align state-level efforts with the Central government’s focus on transgender welfare, including the creation of a national portal to streamline services and support.
Minister Lalrinpuii emphasized the importance of understanding the lived realities of LGBTQI+ individuals in Mizoram. She highlighted the need for accurate data collection to better inform welfare initiatives and policy development. To that end, the Department proposed conducting a comprehensive survey using the expertise of the Mizoram Psychological Association (MPA) and the Mizoram Professional Social Workers’ Association (MPSWA), ensuring both professional and ethical rigor.

Officials from the Departments of Social Welfare, Home, and Health participated in the meeting, alongside representatives from MPA and MPSWA, marking a collaborative step towards inclusive social policymaking in the state.
