Shillong, May 31,2025, Virthli (ONP): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has placed all districts of the state on high alert as heavy rains continue to trigger floods and landslides across several regions.
In a statement shared on social media, the Chief Minister said a high-level meeting was convened with all district administrations and key departments to assess the situation and coordinate an effective emergency response. The move comes as continuous rainfall has caused widespread damage, particularly in landslide-prone and low-lying areas.
“District Administrations and Departments have been directed to stay on high alert for the next 24 hours,” Sangma stated. “Focus has been placed on preventing traffic disruptions and ensuring commuter safety.”
Emergency services, including disaster response teams and public works departments, have been mobilized to monitor vulnerable zones, clear debris, and provide immediate assistance to affected communities.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid travel in high-risk areas, and report emergencies to local authorities. Schools in some districts may also be closed as a precaution, though official announcements are awaited.
