Meghalaya Launches German Language Training Program to Boost Global Nursing Careers

 Shillong, May 22, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a significant step towards enhancing global employment opportunities for Meghalaya’s youth, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma launched the German Language Training Program for Overseas Placement. The initiative aims to prepare local nurses for placements in Germany’s healthcare sector by equipping them with professional German language skills.

As part of the first batch, 30 nurses - including the 20 mentioned in the initial rollout have begun their training, which is part of a larger initiative under the State Skill Development Mission. The program is being implemented in collaboration with IndieTalent Solutions and the Indo German Chamber of Commerce, with support from the German Consulate in Kolkata.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the transformative potential of such programs. “This initiative is more than just language training; it’s a gateway to global careers. With a large, talented, and ambitious youth population, Meghalaya is well-positioned to benefit from such international collaborations,” he said. “These opportunities not only empower our young professionals with international exposure but also uplift entire families and communities.”

Also present at the launch event was Shri Challienkhum Songate, IRS, Principal Secretary of the Department of Labour, Employment & Skill Development, who reiterated the government’s commitment to equipping Meghalaya’s workforce with globally relevant skills.

The program will help participants clear the B1-level German language examination, a mandatory requirement for employment in Germany’s healthcare sector.

The initiative is part of Meghalaya’s broader mission to build pathways to overseas employment and leverage global partnerships for local talent development.
