Manipur: Ashang Kasar Falsely Accused, Says Indigenous People’s Forum

VIRTHLI

Imphal, May 23, 2025, Virthli (ONP): The Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur (IPFM), has issued a strong rebuttal and condemnation of what it calls a “false and malicious complaint” filed against renowned social activist and IPFM president Mr. Ashang Kasar. The complaint, lodged by the Sangaikot Sub-Division Defence Committee (SSDDC), accused Mr. Kasar of posting a provocative and inflammatory message on social media aimed at inciting communal discord.

According to the IPFM’s statement, the complaint, dated May 22, 2025, and submitted to the Officer-in-Charge of Sangaikot Police Station, referenced an alleged post on X (formerly Twitter) attributed to Mr. Kasar’s verified handle. The controversial post targeted Naga and Kuki communities and has since been dismissed by the IPFM as fabricated and baseless.

Ashang Kasar Falsely Accused, Says Indigenous People’s Forum

The IPFM firmly asserted that Mr. Kasar has never authored such a post and that no such content exists on his verified or authorized social media platforms. It accused unnamed groups of deliberately fabricating evidence to malign Mr. Kasar’s reputation and provoke unrest during a sensitive period in the region.

“This is not the first attempt by certain groups to discredit Mr. Kasar,” the IPFM noted, pointing to a pattern of false narratives aimed at communal polarization. The Forum emphasized Mr. Kasar’s consistent role in promoting peace, mutual respect, indigenous rights, and democratic values in Manipur.

Additionally, the IPFM questioned the legitimacy of the SSDDC, referring to it as an “unrecognized and unmandated body” lacking the authority to level serious accusations. It called on the public and authorities to remain vigilant against misinformation and propaganda.

The IPFM concluded its statement by urging both the Manipur and Central governments to investigate the complaint thoroughly and take appropriate action against those involved in attempts to incite discord through deceit.
