Tuiṭhaphai, May 22, 2025, Virthli (ONP): The Sangaikot Sub-Division Defence Committee (SSDDC) has formally requested the Sangaikot Police Station in Churachandpur district to file a First Information Report (FIR) against social activist Ashang Kasar for making what it terms as "inflammatory and derogatory comments" capable of inciting communal tensions between tribal communities in Manipur.
The complaint, signed by Jamchinlien Lhungdim, Joint Secretary of the SSDDC, accuses Mr. Kasar of promoting enmity between groups through a social media post on his account (@Ashang_Kasar) on X (formerly Twitter). The post reportedly threatens members of the Kuki-Zo community residing in districts like Kamjong, Tamei, Ukhrul, and Kangpokpi, referencing past ethnic violence and suggesting further aggression.
The SSDDC noted that the comments directly threaten peace and harmony in the region, especially in the context of ongoing ethnic sensitivities in Manipur. The letter cites a violation of Section 176 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to promoting enmity between different groups on grounds such as religion, race, or community.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether formal charges have been registered.
