Guwahati, May 8, Virthli (ONP): In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Guwahati City Police on Wednesday intercepted a suspect at the Guwahati Railway Station and seized a massive consignment of contraband substances. Acting on credible intelligence inputs, law enforcement officers apprehended an individual in possession of 20,000 WY (World is Yours) tablets, a synthetic drug commonly smuggled in the region.
According to officials, the seized tablets are estimated to be worth between ₹4 to ₹5 crore in the illegal drug market. Along with the narcotics, police also recovered a mobile handset and ₹1,000 in cash from the suspect.
The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to trace the broader network involved in the smuggling operation. Police sources indicated that the tablets were likely intended for distribution in Assam and neighboring northeastern states, where drug abuse remains a growing concern.
Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, commended the swift action of the officers involved and reiterated the department's commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking. "This is a significant seizure and a result of continued surveillance and intelligence gathering. We are determined to dismantle such networks and bring the perpetrators to justice," a senior official stated.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the suspect will be produced before a magistrate for further legal proceedings.
