Tuiá¹haphai, May 13, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a significant political development, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) convened its first Governing Council meeting on Monday at the READS Auditorium in Rengkai, Churachandpur district. The meeting brought together 90 delegates representing various tribes and civil society organizations (CSOs) from Kuki-Zomi-Hmar inhabited areas to deliberate on critical issues affecting the community and its collective future.
Presided over by Ch. Ajang Khongsai, Chief Coordinator of the Kuki-Zo Governing Council, the meeting marked a pivotal moment in the formal consolidation of Kuki-Zo political representation and decision-making processes.
Among the key resolutions adopted, the Council unanimously reaffirmed its long-standing political demand for a separate administration in the form of a Union Territory, under Article 239A of the Indian Constitution mirroring the status of Puducherry. This demand has gained renewed urgency amid ongoing ethnic tensions and administrative challenges in the state.
Another major resolution addressed the political uncertainty surrounding the formation of a popular government in Manipur. After extensive deliberation, the Council resolved that the collective stance of the Kuki-Zo leadership would be presented during an upcoming strategic meeting scheduled for May 16, 2025, in Guwahati. The meeting is expected to include discussions with Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and representatives of groups currently under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement.
